DAVID MILLETT,
MD, PhD
David Millett, MD, PhD is a passionate epileptologist who has established two epilepsy programs over the past 9 years in Southern California. After completing fellowship training in EEG and Epilepsy in 2007, he joined the faculty at USC and created an epilepsy monitoring unit at Rancho Los Amigos for Los Angeles County to provide advanced diagnostic care and treatment for hundreds of underserved patients with severe epilepsy.
This program was closely affiliated with the USC Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, and rapidly expanded to provide epilepsy monitoring, surgical evaluation and epilepsy surgery. This high volume epilepsy program soon provided the clinical foundation for a number of translational research studies that explored neuronal networks that give rise to seizures.
In recognition for his achievements during his tenure at USC, Dr. Millett received several awards, including a Care and Cure Fellowship from the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles (2011-14), and a Special Merit Award from the County of Los Angeles (2011).
In 2014, Dr. Millett moved to Orange County as Director of the Hoag Epilepsy Program and establish a regional system of care in Orange County for persons with epilepsy. In 2016, under the direction of Dr. Millett, the Hoag Epilepsy Program achieved accreditation as a Level 3 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.
Maintaining a close partnership with Dr. Charles Liu and the USC Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, Dr. MIllett and colleagues are continuously working to create a regional Epilepsy Consortium in an effort to operationalize a network of specialists and epilepsy centers across central and southern California to deliver high quality care for persons with epilepsy across he socio-economic, geographical and age spectrum.
In recognition of these efforts, Dr. Millett was recently recognized by the Epilepsy Foundation as the 2016 Honoree at the annual Hidden Truths: Art and Epilepsy event. Dr. Millett is involved in multiple research projects and educational programs, and regularly lectures on various aspects of epilepsy for patients, families, and health care professionals.
