JONATHAN RUSSIN, MD
Jonathan Russin, MD has been an integral member of the neurosurgery team at the Pickup Family
Neuroscience Institute since 2016. He serves as the primary cerebrovascular microsurgical resource to support the neurosurgical and neuroendovascular programs at the Hoag Comprehensive Stroke Center. In addition, he is also a key member of the
Hoag Comprehensive Epilepsy Program supporting the microsurgical resections.
Jonathan Russin grew up on the East Coast and played competitive collegiate lacrosse. He completed his medical education graduating at the top of his class at UMDNJ. He then matched into the highly competitive neurosurgical residency program at USC and was immediately recognized as a uniquely gifted technical microneurosurgeon. He completed an en-folded fellowship in epilepsy surgery under the direction of Charles Liu and played a seminal role in establishing the USC Comprehensive Epilepsy Consortium.
After residency, he completed a cerebrovascular microsurgical fellowship at the Barrow
Neurological Institute under the direction of Robert Spetzler; this is widely regarded as the top post-graduate fellowship in the field. He then returned to join the neurosurgical faculty at the USC. He is presently appointed as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Cerebrovascular Surgery at USC.
He has established himself as one of the top technical neurosurgeons in his generation and has made numerous contributions to the published literature in this realm. He is a recognized expert in cerebrovascular microsurgery with particular emphasis on novel cerebrovascular bypass solutions to highly complex neurovascular challenges not amenable to endovascular approaches.
He is the principal cerebrovascular microvascular resource to a large network of private andpublic healthcare delivery systems from Central California to Orange County. He is also the Associate Director – Microneurosurgery and Director of the Translational Neural Repair Laboratory of the USC Neurorestoration Center and leads a number of key
research efforts that maximize the opportunities afforded by surgical tissue from epilepsy and cerebrovascular surgeries.

Kelly Watkins FNP-C is a board-certified nurse practitioner with a background in neuroscience nursing. She collaborates alongside Dr. Millett and Dr. Mehta as part of Hoag’s Epilepsy Program as well as Hoag’s Neurology and Neurosurgery Program.
